Textiles
What we accept
We collect clothing, sheets, curtains, towels and other fabric textiles for recycling in our red Clothing Bank Donation Bins in the depot.
We DO NOT take shoes, belts, suitcases, backpacks, purses, etc.
If you can’t reuse or re-purpose your clothes locally, bring them to Raven!
You can drop off bagged clothing in the Donation Bins in our bottle depot during open hours:
9 am – 5 pm, Monday – Saturday.
Simply “wash ’em, bag ’em, and drop ’em off!”
Please do not drop off items outside while we are closed.
Textile recycling supports a local charity!
We sell the clothing we collect in our donation bins to a recycler in BC, who sorts through every item. Some materials are resold in North America, others are processed to make rags or upholstery filling, and some are shipped for sale overseas.
Half of the proceeds from this program are donated to the Whitehorse Firefighters Charitable Society!
The Yukon’s landfills currently absorb between 200,000 and 300,000 pounds of reusable textiles every year. Since taking on the textile recycling initiative in 2017, we’ve diverted 365,000 pounds of textiles from the territory’s landfills!
Reuse is always better than recycling
When you’re looking to get rid of old clothing, shoes and accessories, first consider donating them. There are many local non-profit organizations as well as thrift and consignment stores that occasionally take donations of used clothing.
Reusing clothes locally is the best possible option for the environment and it supports your local community. Consider hosting a clothing swap with your friends to find ways to keep the flow of materials circular!
